At last I am ready to reveal the results of my first annual “What the Men/Women of Second Life Are Looking for in a Valentine” poll. Thank you to everyone who took it. Thanks especially to everyone who took it a second time with their alt. I thought it was interesting that more than twice as many people took the women's poll as took the men's poll. I am guessing that all of the men - in an attempt to skew the results to make themselves look better - logged in with female alts to answer the women's questions, thus making the women appear to be rabid poll takers.
OK, Kids - now for the good stuff!! I am so impressed with you - looks are not the most important thing for you. Both men and women selected the quality of personality (Charm and wit to match my own.) most often. This answer was selected by a whopping 75% of respondents in both polls. Awwwww!! Cute!!
Men also prefer meeting a Valentine who is a RL woman (70% - Does not have testicles.) while women could care less as long as you are willing to forsake all others and be a one woman man (62%).
For the men, having a cute avatar and being willing to pull your pixels off the couch once in a while (Likes to explore new places in SL.) tied, with 67% of respondents selecting those answers!
Women, it seems, would rather that you be ready and willing to explore the grid (58%) than have an attractive avatar (50%). And that I think is because we sometimes see you as projects. We will make you more attractive. Whether you want to be or not.
Now, I did notice that very few women chose goatees as something they look for in a Valentine. This puzzled me, until it hit me that you all would have probably picked goatees if not for the 5 answer limitation. So, I will just assume that if I had allowed six choices rather than five you would have all picked it ...because who doesn't like nice facial hiar? Therefore....let's see.. carry the 1....WOW!!!! With 100% of all poll takers (probably) selecting it, goatees are by far the most popular characteristic women seek in a SL Valentine.
I would have liked to wrap this up with some advice, but I am certainly not one to give advice on love. OH!! Except this: If you do find SLove, learn to make an emergency outfit folder pronto!! Because, quite often, SLove means logging in naked.
Tymmerie...why would SLove mean logging in naked? I'm blonde, I get confused easily.

Good to see the results of the polls. Hmm Tymmerie, you are not one to give advice on love? Perhaps I can personally educate you on all the positives of SLove :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd for the rest of you...as someone who has been on both sides of SLove, I will offer my 2 Lindens. Don't be afraid to open yourself up to love. Quite a few who are stuck by it never expected it. When two people come together here in world it can be a truly amazing thing. A merger of each others essence without RL limitations. It can be totally frighting and also the best feeling you will ever have.
However, don't go into it blind either. If the person seems to be a player, he/she/it probably is and will move on. If they have multiple SLovers be prepared to share. Hmm, can anyone say Alts. If they have one, you know about, how do you feel about what that Alts does? And why would they not want you to know where they are on the grid at all times? And just why does this person choose to be in SL and not out and about in RL? People married in RL tend to stay married and don't give it all up for pixel SLove. Just because someone spends a few days sweet talking you, doesn't mean they are not still a serial killer in RL. And did you really think you would find your true love..in a free sex club?
I would advise to clearly define how much RL/SL interaction you want BEFORE getting hot and heavy with anyone. Stick to that until you are truly comfortable in changing your decision. And a week or two of hawt SLex should not be enough to change your mind. Don't settle for the first man/woman/critter to turns your head. Really try to get to know them and others first. Sometimes the best romances begin with a friend ;-)
Also, things do happen. Great romances can tragically end. But new love can always bloom, if you let it. Time can heal (or at least scab over) all wounds. My recommendation... if it really feels right... jump in with both feet and enjoy the ride :-)

In addition I can say that some romances even END with a new friend, if you manage to end them at the right point and with both sides agreeing on it.
PS: I had a goatee about 10 years ago in RL as well as in my early SL days last year, does that count? ;-D

Timothy - that has always been my goal: to at least end up with friends out of old relationships. Your old goatee counts as long as you have rezzed in nude at least once as a result of the sexual attractiveness created by them.
