SLegal Action

The new Second Life® branding guidelines are out, and to help your avatar comply, some clever and talented people have created these items:

Samantha Poindexter created the t-shirt and Kit Meredith created the floaty symbols. Your avatar can can show the ultimate respect toward the Second Life
® brand as you go about living your SLife. These items are free for the asking. Just IM me or send me an email to tymmerie@gmail.com. They will be available in-world very soon also. (I will post the SLurl™ as soon as it is available.)

ETA: OMG!! Gmail sent some of the requests for t-shirts and floaty symbols to my junk mail folder, which then ate them. If I have not responded to you please send me a new email or IM and I will get them to you asap. I am so sorry about that!

  1. Phew! Couldn't bear to SLive™ knowing I'm in breach of the Second Life® branding guidelines. Please send me a free t-shirt Tym and save my SLsoul™.

  5. I did a quick check at the US Patent and Trademark Office online (http://uspto.gov). Yes, strangely enough a RL hobby of mine in historical research of Patents and Trademarks :-) So looking up current trade marks was easy.

I do see where Second Life has a number of trade marks on their names and it's variations. However, I wonder if they ever noticed that the Work Mark: "Second Life" is also currently registered to a Furniture finishing and restoration business in Massachusetts? Hm, I hope that he doesn't get miffed at the Linden's using his officially registered trademark (Jan 2000). Oh, and I also saw at least 41 registrations for "SL". So who is to say that we are not referring to an Asian textile testing machine (Songshan Lake SCI. & Tech), metal bolts (St. Louis Screw & Bolt Company), freight containers (Sea-Land) or referring to furniture restorers :-)

Actually I think the bloggers of SL are safe based on what I have read. For example:

    http://harperganesvoort.wordpress.com/2008/03/25/linden-lab-tightens-trademark-control/

But then what do I know. Good luck all you bloggers! And honey, I will be sure to visit you in prison for conjugal visits.
