My biggest challenge today? To figure out where to file the Blood Spurter that my friend Arminasx Saiman (Electric Pixels) made and gave me at our Halloween party. I could put in under Clothes > Costumes > Body Parts or under Clothes > Costumes > Medical/Nurses/Doctors or under Clothes > Costumes > Holiday Specific > Halloween. Or I could put it under Objects > Holidays > Halloween > Blood Stuff. Hmmmm...
See? That made me sound all organized. But, I'm not. At least, not naturally. I have to trick myself into being organized. I actually enjoy most parts of inventory sorting. The only part I don't like is adjusting hair before I file it. Bleh.
Anywho....I am glad I force myself to be organized because I just opened up my Objects > Holidays > Thanksgiving stuff folder and it is so ready to go! Now, understand that food is a whole inventory category unto itself. So I have lots of goodies waiting under the Objects > Food > Holidays > Thanksgiving folder. I used to further divide food into party and non party food ...but that was taking it a little bit too far and led to judgement calls as to whether something was just a snack or an appetizer. As it is I am struggling to properly categorize things I consider snacks but are on buffet-appropriate plates.
The most challenging part of my inventory? Dresses. I tried Clothing > Dresses > and then sorting by color. But sometimes I want a certain style and am not concerned with color. So I tried sorting by style, but that led to all sorts of judgement calls as to whether something was a party dress or a cocktail dress or a baby-doll versus a sundress. So, I tried sorting by designer. Well, nice try but that left me with about 7 billion folders each holding one dress. Insanity.
Dresses aren't like tops - which I have found more forgiving to sort. My tops have both style and color categories, with things organized according to the attribute I find most important to that garment. So, a white polo goes under 'white', but a white tank goes under 'tanks'. See? Dresses aren't like that. So, I sort of gave up and decided that when I meet someone even more insane than me, I will ask them what system they use to sort dresses. And that should solve my problem!
Sort of.

I finally made a folder for Halloween yesterday and felt so proud of myself. You are so much more organized compared to me!!
Mine is:
Dress> Babydoll> Ballgown> Dresses with several skirt options>formal non poofy> Ivalde> katat0nik> Knee length/above knee length> Long> Medium length> Mini> Old Style (Audrey Hepburn etc)
lol im an organization freak too btw
If you ever get tired of playing in your own inventory...you are more than welcome to organize mine.
And for the record, Mine is something like: Clothing > By Designer for the brands I buy a lot of, and Clothing > Dresses, no subcategory, for the ones who don't have their own designer folder...yet.
I use major cover folders such as *Clothing & Accessories then under that big item folders such as Clothing, Jewelry, Shoes
Then Clothing> Dresses> Day> Babydoll .... Clothing> Dresses> Evening .... Clothing> Tops> Warm Weather> Cami. Under each category Black & Red have subfolders. (I wear a lot of black and red). If I think of one by designer rather than by style, the designer has a folder. The first folders in each sub-folder are outfits *Black 3Tiered-Designer; Jewelry-Designer (so I can visualize the outfit)
Jewelry designers always have their own folder under the item folder Jewelry> Necklace Sets> Muse> Orchid (a lovely set). My Miriel folder is extensive ;-D
The * are important since it places a folder at the top.
I also disgustingly re-label almost every folder "description; designer; __ L" or... -Group (group gift) -Gift (designer personal gift)-Chair. So I know whether someone who compliments me has a chance of finding the item in shop.
However I also have a multitude of unopened "objects"
We can create sub folders? I just have everything under objects... well it made sense as most things are labeled "Object"... hmm I am a lost cause ;-)
I have the opposite problem, Tymm! I can't find a good way to organise tops. Dresses are not a problem for me :P
For dresses, I sort by style. First I have Long/Short/With options (those that offer both a long and a short skirt). Under Long I have A-line/Empire/Poufy/Mermaid/Form-fitting, and under Short I have Casual/Formal/System skirts/Sexy.
Tops, now, I sort by style too but it drives me crazy. A tank top might be casual but if you wore a blazer over it, it would be come smart casual or even formal... but then there are some tank tops (especially patterned ones) which are very definitely casual. I can't find my tops half the time. That's why I wear dresses more often :p
