Take me to your SLeader!

Hi there! I wanted to show off what I am pretty sure I will wear for the outer space themed Blogger Meet Up party on Sunday. I might use different hair or add tights or something.

I tried to make my own ray gun, but it looked more like a sex toy and I gave up. I found the cool ray gun that I am using in the picture on XStreetSL - it was free and full perm! I modified the colors a bit.

I made this helmet. I know, I know - I have skillz. It is not fancy, but it works. However, now that I am looking at it I think I will try to find a smoother glass texture for the round part (the only thing I had in inventory at the time was a frosted glass). If anyone would like a space helmet,  just IM Tymmerie Thorne (me, ha!) and I will send one to you in-world. I'll send it to you with mod/copy perms so you can play with the colors, size and textures. (And even if you are not coming to this particular party you might want the helmet so you can do some kinky space themed RP with your SLover. I'm just sayin'.)

I am SO Kidding

Crisis Averted at LL - PC Unplugged by Hero 

San Francisco, CA - In the early hours of the morning LL's offices descended into chaos as it became clear that a formerly well-respected employee had done the unthinkable. Obvious Linden was caught logging into the SL virtual world. Witnesses included a security guard, two cleaning people and several members of the customer support team.

As he looked down at sheets of paper and highlighters scattered on the floor, Ampersand Linden said, "He had this person type thing and he was trying to make it walk...it was awful!" Semicolon Linden added, "I'd never seen anything like it except in pictures in our marketing materials!"

Apostrophe Linden was the first on scene to realize that Obvious was using the company's own product - SL. "I had to think quickly! I knocked the mouse out of his hand and minimized the screen. That gave Comma Linden a chance to power off the machine before...before...[sobbing]" "Before anyone could see it long enough to become interested in creating their own avatar," continued Comma. 

When Obvious Linden was asked what his thoughts were about the company's reaction to his misdeeds, he stated "WTF?"

Insiders report that no LL employees have ever used SL for reasons that include not wanting to skew user statistics to, "...only losers play computer games," to, "What's SL?" 

Hyphen Linden delivered a statement from leadership - "We at LL are shocked and saddened by tonight's events. I can assure the gaming public that this will not happen again. We feel that a full understanding of our own products would hamper the creativity of our staff. Obvious Linden will retain a position at LL, but be reassigned to the cafeteria."

Show me your alien-wear!

This photo has nothing to do with the topic. But, I didn't want this to be a text only post and I also did not want to spoil the surprise of my costume!

• Blogger and businessman Arminasx Saiman is hosting us at The Particle Lounge (the hot club at his store Electric Pixels). 

• The decor of the club inspired the theme for the party: OUTER SPACE! Costumes are encouraged!

• Blogger Alicia Chenaux will DJ! She puts together such fun sets!

• Last time we had fun with some SL trivia and prizes so look for that this time around, too.

We'll be mixing and mingling and having a great time!

New Poll!!

I put a poll question right up ..there at the the top of this page. The poll is about wearing logo'd items like a tee-shirt or pair of sunglasses or using an item like a purse or totebag. We do this all of the time in RL - from Nike logos on jackets, Chanel logos on sunglasses, to logo covered Coach bags and Tommy Hilfiger's name all over your underwear in huge letters -- all of that makes us walking advertisements for the firms.


I would really appreciate it if you would give me your opinion on this topic. It would be even better if you would tell me why you would (or do) wear them in SL or why you would not. Which brands would you wear? Are there brands you wish you could wear? In your opinion, why is RL similar or different from SL in this respect?

If you own a business, I would love to hear why you do or do not offer logo'd items.

Introducing Pixel Promo

I have a new blog -- Pixel Promo. I set it up because every once in a while I want to share some maketing tips, but I want to keep those more serious posts separate from this blog which I try to keep more lighthearted and entertaining.

With Apologies to the Discovery Channel

Occasionally, when my typist travels for work, she catches some Discovery Channel in her hotel room. Her program of choice? Cash Cab. I wonder how such a game might play out in SL? 

[insert dream sequence music here]

 Me: Welcome to Linden Limo, a game show that takes place right here in this prim taxi! (You didn't know I was a cab driver in SL, did you?) I drive around aimlessly looking to pick up innocent fares to play my trivia game! They can earn Lindens for every right answer! But if they get three wrong? I pull over and kick 'em out! Oh! There's someone looking for a ride now! 

[pulls over] Need a ride, buddy? 

Mr. Fare:  Yea. TPs are down and I need to go to Mosh and Yedboro near Kama Center.

[crazy game show music blares and lights flash]  What the...? 

Me:  You are in the Linden Limo! A game show that takes place right in this taxi! 

Passenger: [sigh] I don't see any other cabs around here.

Me: Kama Center is 37 sims away -- you have lots of time to win Lindens! Let's start! For $100L, what is the name of Torley Linden's sim?

Passenger: Do you know how long TPs will be down?

Me: Oh! Wrong! That is strike one. Question two: What does the 'M' in M Linden's name stand for?

Passenger: How the hey are you able to ask questions, keep score, look at the camera and drive all at the same time without crashing?

Me:  Incorrect! Strike two!

Passenger: Wait! I didn't...

Me: Hey! We are at a sim crossing and that triggers a Sim Crossing challenge! This is a bonus question! 

Passenger: [sigh]

Me: Name 6 of the 13 basic prim shapes on the create menu. Go!

Passenger: You realize that I could have flown and gotten to my destination faster?

Me: That is not the answer! But don't worry - that won't count as a strike since it was a bonus question!

Passenger: Lucky me.

Me: We are almost to your destination. We just have to get through this futuristic, damaged enabled, robot-themed, battle role playing sim. Ready for question three?

Passenger: Jeebus. Fine.

Me: What is the name of the newly purchased and revamped SL e-commerce web site?

Passenger: umm...can you drive a little faster? Those warrior robots are getting awfully close. 

Me: Wrong! [pulls over] I am sorry but that is strike three!    

Passenger: What? You are kicking me out?

Me: Yes. This is how the game is played! Better luck next time.

Passenger: But you can't drop me off here! Those robots will kill me!

Me: Sorry. Your ride has ended. But I hope you had a good time.

Passenger: No!! Please!! Don't leave me! Wait! Flying is disabled here!

Me: Have a great day!

Passenger: [screams] 

Me: [looks into camera] And now to look for a new contestant for....LLLLinden Limo! [peels out]

Gimmee an S! Gimmee an L!

 

Ah! Fall! Football season! And what better way to kick it off than with a group picture of cheerleaders! I grabbed a bunch of cute girls and we assembled at the stadium of the Second Football League (along with a gang of suspected 15 year olds) to take a photo!

From left to right the pictured cheerleaders are Arianrhod Gehlbard, Alicia Chenaux, Rylan Carling, moi, Amanda  Shinji and Megan Jigsaw.

Now, it can be hella difficult to find a college cheer uniform in SL. But I made do with some black and gold pieces sans logos.

If you missd out posing with us no worries - I want to do this again -- especially if I can find a cute CU cheer uniform!

Advice from a Brilliant Businessperson

I just read this post from one of the hands down most successful businesspeople in SL - Callie Cline. I wanted to make sure you saw it. My favorite part of it is the a phrase she uses to describe customers, "They have many choices." Callie is someone who knows and practices outstanding marketing. I really enjoyed it. I hope you will find it as valuable to read as I did!
