Haitian Relief Fund-raising in SL!!!

There is a "market" and donation kiosk for the International Red Cross located here. I wanted to give you a heads up about this. Proceeds from the sale of items here go to the International Red Cross - although I can't tell for certain that 100% of every item goes to the charity - many of the creators of items are giving 100% per information on the vendors. You can buy sunglasses, poses/props, shapes, skyboxes, clothes, or just make a $Linden donation to the relief effort.

ETA: I donated to the relief effort by buying items here AND donating directly through http://www.redcross.org/en/. A reader did point out that donating directly avoids the Lindens-to-dollars cash out fee LL earns on these donations - a valid point. So, if you can donate directly to a relief organization, try to. Every little bit helps though, so if you are inclined, do what you can in any way you can.

  1. While these events are really good, what is critical is to get money to them now via direct methods, such as via texting money via your cell phone or donating online via the International Red Cross and other established organizations. Taking $L and then cashing them out, getting a check sent, etc. takes time and a % of the funds, even if 100% are donated. Best is to send the funds so that 100% go to the Haitians, with no costs taken from the donation.

  2. You are right that direct donations are probably ideal and time is of the essence. I donated directly to the Red Cross myself.

AND every bit helps. If these events encourage someone who would not ordinarily be able or inclined to donate or is in addition to what people donate, it is good. It would be a really nice gesture if LL waived the fee for converting to $ for the donations.
