I can't get there from here!

SLURLS have not been working for me. So I can't easily shop from blogs like I like to. I miss that little thump sound when the landmark appeared in the viewer after I clicked on 'teleport now'.

It started around the time I tried to download Viewer 2. I have a workaround for this but it is as annoying as all get out: I cut and paste the SLURL into open chat and teleport from there. Why did this happen and how can I fix it without having to call on the Geek Squad?? Or worse - Live Chat. (I am just kidding! This post needed some levity.)

Try this, it has some helpful suggestions. It's likely that you installed a new client and Firefox hasn't associated the url protocol with SL anymore. You can google it too and come up with a ton of stuff.

  3. I have this issue too, but I think it's because I've installed so many darn viewers, it doesn't know what to do. My suggestion is that you uninstall any viewers you have and then do a clean install of your chosen viewer. It's worked for me in the past. I've just been too lazy to do it this time. :)

  6. If you are not using an LL viewer - you at least have to have one installed or it will try to find SL and open it to use the link.
If you are using viewer 2, I never do that anyway, I c/p the slurl into the address bar at top of screen, hit enter and you TP. Quicker (and fails less often) than waiting for it to open a LM.

  7. Have you made sure that your browser is set to open SLURLS with your client of choice? In firefox, check tools>options>applications...but I don't know about IE or Chrome.

I had the same problem last week, and that fixed it.

  8. Yeah when I tried to DL v2 and use it when it first came out it screwed up my slurls for my normal viewer. Even after I uninstalled it too. Eventually it just stopped screwing up, best of luck. e.e;

  9. to add to Katiroth's comment if you follow her directions..you should get a drop down box of which viewer you want to use for slurls. Make sure the viewer you are using is chosen and they should work.

  10. I'd like to know where you took that photo. I'd like to see the maps behind you close up. Thanks!

  11. I had the same issue for awhile with Imprudence (after the Emerald drama). While I tried to associate the SLURLs with Imprudence, I didn't have that option anywhere -- including the places I was advised to look. In the end, I reinstalled the viewer of choice (Imprudence for the moment) which has a "associate SLURLS with Imprudence" choice on install.

That solved all my problems. There are tons of variables in play and I can say that some of the info already listed here might work for some folks, but not all :D (read me) so don't get discouraged. I think a reinstall of your favorite viewer "might" help if you haven't tried that.

And I definitely agree it was a pain when I was dealing with it. Cute photo BTW :D.

  12. Banana - Yup - I am still on the old viewer, too.

Alicia - I just may end up doing that. I wonder if I'll lose my windlight settings, though.

Katiroth - I tried following the instructions you gave but SL or SLURL wasn't a choice in the drop down.

Serenity - that would be great if it just started working again!

Whispers - ah! thanks. I will try that.

Venus - I took that at the Explorers Info Centre in Zindra at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Soobit/214/51/30

    Thanks, Chic!

  13. I make a backup copy of all my WL settings and put them in a folder. That way if I change viewers, I can copy/paste the settings I want into the new viewer. There have been some viewers that have different settings that I like to keep to move from viewer to viewer. I probably have 84,000 on my machine by now...even though I tend to stay in the same one. LOL
